The Department of Computer Application under the umbrella of Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology was started in the year of 2009 with the objective of promoting specialized knowledge in the field of Computer Science and Application. With rapidly evolving technology and the continuous need for innovation, the department promotes active industry-institute collaboration by identifying areas of interest. The course under the department is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and is affiliated to Gauhati University.


At present the department is offering a postgraduate programme i.e. Master of Computer Application which is a three year programme and includes course work, summer project and dissertation. The course is designed to develop appropriate skills and impart comprehensive knowledge in the field of computer applications. It covers pure computer subjects´ viz., Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Organization, Graph Theory, Object Oriented Programming and Design, Computer Graphics, Software Engineering, Formal Language and Automata Theory, Computer Networks, and many more. It provides sound academic base from which an advanced career in computer applications including the latest developments keeping pace with the industry can be developed.

Moreover the Programme has the provision for Lateral Entry admission in the 3rd semester as per the norms of AICTE and Assam Science and Technology University, Guwahati.

The department has started 3 years of Bachelor of Computer Application (B. C. A.) programme from the year 2017. Bachelor of Computer Applications (B. C. A.) is an undergraduate degree course to start a career in computer science and its application areas. The duration of the course is 3 years and divided into 6 semesters.
